About

Built by one developer who wanted a calmer habit tracker.
Habit Pocket is built by Bohdan Stefaniuk, a solo developer in Toronto, Canada. It is one calm grid that tracks checkmarks, numbers, and times of day together — privacy-first, with no gamification, no ads, and no social feed. Launched in 2024 on the web and iOS.

Why I built it
Notebooks and spreadsheets, finally on one grid.
For years I tracked habits, step counts, calories, and sleep across notebooks and spreadsheets. The spreadsheet worked — a row per habit, a column per day, green and red cells — but nothing I could find turned that into a real app. Every habit tracker I tried handled checkmarks and stopped there: a wake time became a yes/no, a weight became a streak, and the numbers I actually cared about had nowhere to live.
So I built Habit Pocket. I wanted one calm grid that handled checkmarks and numbers and times of day, and would show how they move together — without gamification, ads, or a social feed. Time-of-day is a first-class type, so a 07:15 wake-up is stored as a real time, not collapsed into a checkbox. It grew out of the same spreadsheets I had kept for years, turned into a tool I enjoy opening every day.
What I believe
A few opinions, each tied to a real feature.
- Privacy is the default, not a setting
- Your habits and values are never shared with other users, never sold, and never sent to any AI company. The app carries no ads and no third-party trackers beyond crash diagnostics. That is the whole position — see the privacy policy for the specifics.
- You own your data
- Export your full history as CSV or JSON any time, free on every tier. Delete your account in one click and it erases everything from the database immediately — no soft-delete, no waiting period.
- No gamification, no nagging
- No XP, points, levels, or avatars, and no social feed. Push reminders are on the roadmap, but when they land they will be opt-in and quiet. The reward for tracking a habit is watching the data accumulate.
- Opinionated on purpose
- One grid holds checkmarks, numbers, and times of day, and the correlation charts show how they move together. Habit Pocket is opinionated because one person with a clear point of view builds it — including the MCP server that lets you talk to your own habits through Claude or ChatGPT.
A little background
Seven years of backend, applied to my own apps.
I am a senior software developer with more than seven years in backend engineering. I have designed and shipped high-throughput services, data pipelines, payment and identity integrations, and the cloud infrastructure behind them — in C#/.NET, Python, Go, and JavaScript, on AWS and GCP, backed by Postgres and SQL Server. That work has spanned fast-moving product startups and a large global software consultancy building for enterprise clients, so I have seen both the scrappy end and the scale end of shipping software. Habit Pocket is the indie counterweight to all of it: no VC, no ads, no data selling, and one clear point of view.
I am based in Toronto, Canada, and originally from Ukraine. I used to write about programming, note-taking, habit tracking, books, film photography, and music on my old blog at stefaniuk.website, and my CV lives at cv.stefaniuk.website. Questions or feedback? Email habit-pocket@stefaniuk.me.
Also from me
Habit Pocket isn't the only thing I build.
Two more indie apps, same principles: calm, private, and made by one person who uses them every day.
